Roots Crew — Not Just Any Street Team
Dear Family, Friends, and Followers of Roots of a Rebellion,
Thank you ALL for your love and support these last two years, whether you have been with us since our first show with The Movement at 12th and Porter as a four-piece, or you caught one of our recent sets with seven or more! Without you guys supporting what we’re doing, we are nothing, so thank you!!
As a band we are extremely blessed with opportunities to express ourselves through the powerful language of music. A language that might have different dialects (or genres) but is a worldwide human experience that knows no borders, classifications, race, or age. Music, unlike anything else in this entire world, has the power to move us emotionally and this (rather obvious, yet essential) realization has inspired us as a band to dig deeper and ask ourselves why we’re doing what we’re doing…Yes, we LOVE creating heavy bass and drum grooves, writing positive lyrics, and slapping on delay (lay-lay-lay-lay) to spice up our arrangements, but music is so much more than this. It is an energy that is passed on from one soul to the next. As a human race, we are surrounded by such evil and negativity these days it is easy to feel hopeless, but when I, Austin Smith, listen to the words and music of artists like Bob Marley, or Jimmy Cliff, I can’t help but a) feel good inside and b) want to do my part to change the world for the better.
Which is why we, the members of Roots of a Rebellion, want to be more than just a band. We are inspired by the power of music to bring people together and we want to use it the best of our abilities to make a serious positive impact on our world. We humbly invite you to join our movement and help spread positive vibes to those in need.
Not just any street team.
A lot of bands these days have street teams that are loyal fans (i.e. “Dead Heads”) who help promote the band, but we are taking this a step a further and creating a Community Service-oriented Street Team. We call it the Roots Crew and our main objective is to bring people together to help those in need by creating opportunities in our home base of Nashville and eventually every city we go to. Inspired by the work of people like Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, and Chadwick Stokes, our biggest dream is to not only create a life of music but to use this music wisely to make the world a better place for our children.
Dream big, start small.
Like anything though, we have to start small. So with that being said our first official Roots Crew event will be the same as Hands On Nashville Day Saturday, September 22nd. As a band we will be heading the landscaping and painting duties at Shwab Elementary School. It starts at 6:30am and goes till about 12pm. If you come help out with us, there will be an after party at Limelight that you can come to with free food and drink and also a stripped down acoustic set from yours truly—Roots of a Rebellion!
Follow this link to RSVP for the event! You have to register for Hands on Nashville Day in order to participate.

We hope that you are as inspired as us to give back to our community and help each other out. We also realize that everyone has busy schedules and a lot of people are hurting financially…what better way to put things in perspective than to give a little bit of our time and energy to those who need it most of all?
We are eager to build the Roots Crew from the ground up but we need your help building the tribe! So if you believe in what we’re doing, please drop us a note and let us know you want to be an active member of the Roots Crew!
Let the Grass-Roots Guerilla ROAR-fare begin!!!!
Stay up. Stay strong. Stay positive.
